Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive at Townsville and take a taxi to your accommodation. With everything close by and arranged, you won’t need a car until the day you leave.

Day 2
Jump aboard the comfortable, custom-built day tour vessel and head out to one of the best Barrier Reef snorkel sites. Your full-day trip includes morning and afternoon tea, as well as lunch, all-day tea, coffee water and cordial. As well as enough food and drink to keep you happy, the boat has a toilet and shower, plenty of shaded areas as well as a sun deck and stairs for easy water access. The experienced crew are there to help with mask fitting and snorkel techniques and will happily share their passion and knowledge for the reef and its Eco System.

Day 3
Use your included ferry tickets to head over to Magnetic Island. Maggie is the island gem close to Townsville. Once you arrive at the Nelly Bay Marina, you can use cash-only, to jump on Sunbus and explore the three other main villages of Picnic Bay, Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay. Between Arcadia and Horseshoe, there is a popular stop called  Forts Walk. You should grab a timetable before you jump on board or download one from the Sunbus site. Make sure you give yourself time at Nelly Bay before you head back to Townsville.

Day 4
Pick up your rental car at the airport this morning and head to your next stop, Charters Towers, only a 90-minute drive from Townsville. Colloquially known as Charlie's Trousers,  this historic town was once the second-largest in Queensland. Visitors love exploring the grand historic buildings that line the two main streets and if you enjoy keeping to 10000 steps a day, CT has 3 trails which include the City Trail, Park Trail and Hill Trail. There is also a First World War Digital Heritage Trail and for Art lovers, nearby Ravenswood has an Arts Trail.

Day 5
Setting off early today will see that you arrive in Richmond by lunch. Richmond is one of the three towns on the Australian Dinosaur Trail and the home of Kronosaurus Korner. This marine fossil museum tells the story of Richmond as part of Australia's vast Inland Sea. In the cool of the afternoon, you might also like to take a stroll through the Bush Tucker Garden or visit the Cambridge Downs Heritage Display centre.

Days 6
In just over three hours you will reach Cloncurry, your next legendary Outback town. There is a lot of history you may be vaguely familiar with but have yet tied to Cloncurry. For example, the Flying Doctor service started in Cloncurry in 1928. Burke and Wills were the first Europeans to visit the area and the town is named after the aristocratic cousin of one of the men. You must visit the John Flynn Place Museum and Art Gallery to learn more about this historic and friendly towns.

Days 7 to 10
Today will be a long drive to reach Adels Grove where you will have the next 4 nights to soak up the sheer majesty and beauty of Lawn Hill Creek.  Adels Grove is located 10km from the Lawn Hill Gorge, Boodjamulla National Park and 50km from the world heritage Riversleigh Fossil fields. Located in the Gulf Savanah This is one of the most beautiful places to see in Queensland, a true Outback Oasis. We have included a Lawn Creek Gorge Cruise, a chance to see the majesty of the landscape from the water. The next couple of days are yours to explore, swim, canoe, fish, or just relax. We know Adels Grove will be the highlight of your trip.

Day 11
Your final fay on the road will see you head back to the big smoke of Mt Isa. Dinner at The Buffs Club? Why not. Visitors are allowed entry by showing ID and signing in as a visitor.

Day 12
We have included a two-hour Mt Isa City Tour which leaves at 9.30 am. We recommend you store bags at reception or ask if you can check out when they tour ends. Once back, you might like to visit the Mt Isa Underground Hospital and Museum and the Hard Times Mines Tour which will see you donning an Orange jumpsuit and heading underground in a cage. This is a 2.5-hour tour which give great insight into historic mining practices.

Thirty minutes from town is the Mary Kathleen Uranium mine, now a must-do for Instagrammers! The site is radioactive but the vivid aqua colour of the water, against the rusty red rocks in the tiered mine site makes it worth a short visit for some. This afternoon, when you return the car to the airport, and your flight leaves Mt Isa, your  “North QLD & Outback” Quest comes to an end. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr Seuss.
