Daily Itinerary

 

Day 1
Arrive in Adelaide this morning and collect your hire car. Begin the less than 3 hour drive to Cape Jervis. Why not stop for lunch at the Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach and enjoy both a fabulous meal and a spectacular view? Continue to Cape Jervis for the ferry across to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Grab a coffee from the snack bar and relax on the 45-minute trip. Head to Kingscote and check in to your accommodation. Kingscote is the largest township on the island, so pop down to the main street for dinner before calling it a night.

Day 2
Today you can explore the main street of Kingscote and do a spot of shopping to stock the fridge. In the afternoon, jump in the car and head to Raptor Domain for your included 2.30 pm In flight Birds of Prey show. This delightful interactive experience lets you meet an array of Australian birds and raptors. The show is one hour which gives you plenty of time to get to Seal Bay Conservation Park for your included Ranger led walk. This 45 minute walking tour takes you along the boardwalk through the dune system to the beach, and on the way you will have breathtaking views of the colony and the majestic coastline. There is nowhere else in the world where you can listen to an expert give you their unique insight into how these endangered animals hunt, surf, rest, interact with their pups and defend their territory.

Day 3
This morning head over to gorgeous Emu Bay for a swim and stroll along the Jetty which dates to 1918. You don’t have to pack lunch, there are a number of great cafes at Emu Bay. Fishers can make contact with Emu Bay Fishing Charters if a day out on the water beckons. On the way back to Kingscote do stop off at the Emu Bay Lavender Farm. They have delicious snacks and who can resist the scent of Lavender.

 Day 4
Check the tide and if it’s low, head to the secluded beach of Stokes Bay. The kids will love exploring the rock tunnel through to the beautiful beach. Stokes Bay is protected from the pounding surf by a giant pool surrounded by rocks. Paddle in the knee-deep water or just soak up the sun and read a book. How about lunch at the Rockpool Café? Push on to Snellings Beach for even more beautiful Kangaroo Island scenery if you’re keen!

Day 5
Visit the amazing Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can get up close with Koalas, hand feed Kangaroos and Wallabies and experience Kangaroo Island Wildlife at your fingertips! Your entry is included, all you need to do is have the camera ready to capture those adorable native animals. After everyone has had a great time at the Wildlife Park, continue on to Vivonne Bay which is regarded as one of Australia’s best beaches. Its unique curved shape, turquoise waves and pristine white sand make for the perfect place to while away an afternoon. Thrill-seekers might prefer to get in touch with Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action Co, based at Vivonne Bay and do a Fat Bike Tour, Sand Dune Surfing, Kayaking in the Harriet River or Quad Biking. All activities are designed to showcase the island’s natural beauty.

Day 6
Perhaps a lazy morning might be in order after a busy few days. In the early afternoon head to Pelican Lagoon and American River. This will lead you to the Dudley Peninsula, named after the American sailors who built their boat here in 1804. Overlooking the Eastern Cove, is a charming village where locals and visitors an outer bay where locals and visitors love to fish and sail. Pelican Lagoon is great for bird-watchers to see pelicans and black swans. There are breeding areas for these beauties in the island lagoon. Continue on to Penneshaw and drop into the Maritime and Folk Museum before heading to “The Penny”, or Penneshaw Hotel for a late afternoon Ale and early dinner. The Penneshaw Penguin Centre has tours at 6.30pm and 7.30 pm to view Little Penguins. (except Wed & Thu)

Day 7
On your final day in paradise before you return to reality, enjoy all those other things Kangaroo Island has to offer – Clifford’s Honey Farm for a scoop of their special ice-cream; Dudley Wines and their clifftop Cellar Door; Bay of Shoals wines for a few bottles to take home with you; Hope Cottage; any of those fabulous beaches you may have missed?

Day 8
Depart on the early ferry this morning and enjoy the drive back to Adelaide. Once you return the rental car your “Kangaroo Island Unwind” Quest comes to an end. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr Seuss.
