Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Welcome to Darwin, a former frontier outpost and the Territory capital. Once you’ve checked into your accommodation you can wander out for a stroll through the neighbourhood or perhaps go for an early dinner. Try Rachel’s Seafood Shack or for somewhere more decadent, give Pee Wee’s a try.
Day 2
A visit to The Tiwi Islands is a must. It takes 2.5hrs on Sealink’s fast Catamaran. Cross the Beagle Gulf during the peaceful morning hours and take a position at the front so you can watch the rain forested shores of the islands come into view. The Tiwi’s are known as 'the islands of smiles' and the Tiwi people well-renowned for their individual style of art. In particular, this includes carvings and bright textile designs. Many Tiwi artists have exhibited around the world. Wurrumiyanga boasts three art centres, the culture museum, the old Catholic mission precinct, and also Pukamani (burial) poles in the cemetery.

To get the best from your visit we have included the Tiwi by Design walking tour. You will be met with a traditional welcome ceremony and morning tea then shown through the Museum and Mission before you break for an included lunch. Next you meet with a Tiwi artist who will show you how to screen-print your own piece of art to take home. The Cat leaves the island around 3pm for the return Gulf crossing to Darwin.

Days 3 to 5
Check out of your Darwin accommodation this morning, return to the airport and join your pilot for the charter service to Bamurru Plains. When you arrive, you will find yourself immersed in a truly extraordinary bush experience on the coastal floodplains of Australia’s Top End. Bamurru Plains is a safari lodge with exclusive access to 300km² of floodplains and savanna woodland on the Mary River, at the edge of Kakadu National Park. A profusion of bird and wildlife are at your doorstep of this unique bush experience that exudes ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ and brings a touch of style to the discovery of a remote and beautiful wilderness. Your ‘Immersive 'Kakadu Excursion’ will begin at 8.00am, where you will depart on a scenic 30min flight. Soar above the floodplains adjoining the East Alligator River before landing at Jabiru airstrip. Drive through the northern part of Kakadu before you arrive at the base of Ubirr Rock. Spend around an hour walking up the rock and exploring traditional Aboriginal art sites before you take in the views from the top. After lunch at around 1.00pm you will join an Aboriginal guide for an exciting river cruise on the East Alligator River. Learn from your guide about the local culture and mythology, and the all about the river’s abundant ecosystem. After your river cruise you will return to Bamurru Plains with a stop at Bowali Visitor Centre. Back at your accommodation enjoy an afternoon drink and dinner at the lodge.

Day 6
Bid farewell to Bamurru Plains and enjoy your short charter flight back to Darwin. You will be able to press your noses against the window and gaze transfixed in awe at the most magnificent landscape you have just experienced first-hand. Once you arrive and check into your Darwin accommodation, spend the rest of the day checking out the sights you didn’t see last time. Learn about some of the region’s indigenous art with a trip to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Or why not head to the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets and indulge in an array of local food stalls. For history buffs, a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service might be right up your ally. Learn about the bombing of Darwin Harbour in 1942 through a fascinating Virtual Reality movie.

Day 7
Your last day in Darwin will be filled with excitement and natural beauty with a small-group full day guided tour to Litchfield National Park. After you’ve been collected from your hotel, you’ll travel towards the National Park with stops along the way. The first stop will be at the Magnetic and Cathedral termite mounds. Afterwards you’ll continue in to the park to follow your guide on an exciting hike along bush-walking tracks. Stop at the Florence Falls and take a dip in the cool waters. Enjoy a barbecue lunch in the park before you continue onto the Wangi Falls, a segmented waterfall in the centre of the park. Your last stop will be Buley Rockhole, where you can take another dip in the refreshing waters at one of the many rock holes and cascading waterfalls. In the afternoon you will make your way back to Darwin, and be dropped at your hotel.
