Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive into Hobart and get settled into your hotel. Head out to nearby Battery Point, Hobart’s oldest (and prettiest) suburb. This historical area is definitely not boring! Salamanca Place and the waterfront precinct are close. There are loads of choices for a bite to eat. Maybe try Irish Murphy’s.

Day 2
Today make sure you head across to MONA by ferry. Spend the morning looking at the amazing building and then, of course, there are the exhibits. You can enjoy a lunch at MONA, drink beer, eat cheese and talk crap about art. You'll love it! In the afternoon visit Mawson’s Hut Museum and if you are feeling energetic head off to the sculpture trail at Battery Point.

Day 3
Enjoy a visit to the vibrant and famous Salamanca Markets. No need to eat before you go, as well as arts and crafts, you will find an enormous array of local produce to tempt your taste buds. This afternoon, head to the airport and collect your rental car. Continue on to the historic site at Port Arthur. Take time to wander around the spectacular site before joining your guided “lantern light” ghost tour at 5.30 pm.

Day 4
Jump in the car and drive out to Tahune Adventures site. Tackle the Swinging Bridges Walk and the Tahune Air Walk. Both offer spectacular views as you walk 50 metres above the Huon and Picton riverbanks. Then feel the wind beneath your wings as you glide smoothly through tall forests on The Cable Eagle Glider.

Days 5 to 6
With short stops along the way, your drive will take you up into the mountains, across valleys, and then more mountains to the Alpine Plateau for a lunch stop at Derwent Bridge. The journey will be around 6 hours. Spend the afternoon in Strahan.

Arrive at Strahan Pier by 8 am the next day and check-in for your award-winning UNESCO and World Heritage Wilderness Cruise. Your Premium Upper Deck tickets include a lovely lunch, complete with wines and beers.

Days 7 to 8
Check out of your Strahan hotel and commence the climb to Cradle Mountain. When you have room access, get ready for your 8.30 pm Night Spotting After Dark tour. Your expert guide will help you to spot Wallabies, Pademelons, Wombats and Possums.

Spend the next day trekking around Cradle Mountain. The rugged jewel of Tasmania’s Lake St Clair National Park. This natural jewel is home to quintessential Australians like Tasmanian Devils, Wallabies, Platypus, Quolls and Echidna!

Day 9
Leave Cradle Mountain behind as you descend to Launceston. This drive is one of our most scenic and can take just over 2 hours. But if you feel like taking the slow road, your travels can take you via Promised Land, home to the village of Lower Crackpot and the aptly named Tazmazia. Google it.

Day 9..continued
Next stop is Railton where you can visit Seven Sheds Brewery, one of Tassie’s smallest breweries. Beer must be followed by Chocolate right? Not far away in Latrobe you’ll find the House of Anvers, a chocolatier run by a Belgian who has worked and trained in his homeland before setting up on the highway between Launie and Devenport. How quirky, but this is Tasmania. Now you have possibly eaten and drunk your way to Launceston!

Day 10
Wake up early and head off to Cataract Gorge for a brisk morning walk. This is also home to the world’s longest chairlift over one single span. Combine the spectacular views with a walk along the suspension bridge to one of the lookouts. Stop and have a coffee break with a peacock! That’s a nice winter warmer after an early walk! Return to town and take a look around, maybe visiting the Queen Victoria Museum and its sister Art Gallery. You might prefer to head out to one of the Tamar Valley wineries. The region is home to several well-known wineries. Take your pick of Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir or sparkling wines, which are considered by many to be second only to Champagne itself.

Days 11 to 12
If you struggled to choose between wineries then you can always do one this morning! Your next stop is Derby, just under two hours from Launceston so you have a little bit of time. Made famous by the Blue Derby, here is Australia's best Mountain Bike Park. This small town has lots of character, home to rolling farmland, quaint & quirky gift and craft shops, and friendly cafes.

Spend the day exploring whichever of Derby’s spectacular bike trails takes your fancy, or suits your skill level. Today will be a day of exhilaration and outdoor adventure. You know Australia has some of the best natural scenery in the world, and riding through this pristine environment is a real pleasure. The Bridestowe Lavender Estate is about an hour out of Derby, easy to visit with the car.

Days 13 to 16
Drive to the seaside holiday village of Coles Bay for 4 nights. While you are here, brush up on the dos and don’ts of Penguin-watching and head to Bicheno. Every night you can watch dozens of Penguins hopping out of the water. Who is watching who?

On one of your full days at Coles Bay we have included a guided Kayak Paddle. Yes, the water will be cold (freezing, even!) but the Freycinet National Park has to be seen from the water, so front up and stay dry.

Day 17
Leave the beautiful Freycinet area behind and head to Hobart Airport in time for your flight just after lunch. Once you’ve returned the rental car to the Airport depot, your ‘Tastes of Tasmania’ Quest comes to an end. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr Seuss.
